Previously, Salman Khan was penalized 5 years of imprisonment by the court while the other four suspect - Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre were acquitted by the court. The court also slapped him with a fine of Rs 10,000. Salman Khan, one of the world's highest-paid actors, has been indicted in many criminal cases till date.
In a TV interview in 2009, Salman Khan had said that he had "saved the deer" and fed it. The whole controversy started then, he claimed.
Local news said Khan planned to appeal against the sentence. Unless the sentence is suspended, he was doomed spend the night in jail.
Last year, another court in Jodhpur acquitted Khan in a separate poaching case, ruling that there was no proof that Khan had killed an endangered gazelle.

Amnesty International recorded a noticeable decrease in the overall number of executions carried out for drug-related offences. In 2017, Amnesty campaigned on the case of Jack Greene, who was convicted in 1992 of the murder of Sidney Burnett.
Khan, 52, was found guilty of violating Indian wildlife laws by killing a blackbuck, an endangered species of antelope, in 1998.
