Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and made for close to $300 million, Infinity War marks the third Avengers film and the 19th installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It already ranks #15 on the all-time USA chart (topping The Dark Knight Rises) and has just about matched the domestic total of Age of Ultron ($459 million). Through Sunday, it generated $1.16 billion worldwide, a rapid ascent, even before it opens in China on May 11. That haul puts it past Captain America: Civil War ($1.15 billion) and has it knocking on the doorstep of Iron Man 3 ($1.21 billion). The Force Awakens' second weekend, it dropped just 39.8% to take in $149.2 million in its second frame, and an additional 39.5% in its third weekend to set a third-weekend record of $90.2 million. The decrease was lower than the 59% encountered by Age of Ultronin its second weekend but a bit steeper than the 50% experienced by The Avengers. Not long ago, it was "Black Panther", but things have changed as the film crowded with superheroes became the fastest movie to hit $1 billion globally.
"An irresistible principle that brings with an nearly unimaginable cast of superhero characters in one massive popcorn movie deal has been demonstrated to be cinematic nirvana for film enthusiasts around the world", said Dergarabedian.
The cast, including Derbez and Eva Longoria, helped promote the film on their social media accounts too.
MGM and Lionsgate's Pantelion Films' gender-swapped remake of Garry Marshall's 1987 comedy, "Overboard" scored the highest-grossing opening weekend for Pantelion Films with a better-than-expected $14.8 million from 1,623 theaters.

McIlroy missed a short eagle putt on the 2nd hole and it all went downhill from there, with five bogeys following. He regained that dropped shot on the second, hitting a majestic iron to 10 feet before stroking home the birdie.
