The cover of Entertainment Weekly features Kidman with Amber Heard and Jason Momoa in a first look at the standalone movie about the DC Comics aquatic hero.

Aquaman is slated to be released on December 21, 2018 in the US and the UK.

However, we did get our first look at the character today. Let's just hope that Jason Momoa's version of Arthur Curry will usher in a new era for the Aquaman character.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play the villainous Black Manta while Patrick Wilson will play Ocean Master, the movie's main antagonist and Aquaman's power-hungry half-brother.

Finally, the eagerly anticipated Aquaman trailer has a debut date.

Nicole Kidman is another notable cast member slated to appear in the upcoming film, playing the role of Atlanna.

Despite being Aquaman's nemesis, Black Manta will not be the central villain in the film, perhaps suggesting plans for more Aquaman's standalone films.

Another new Aquaman photo has arrived online (via EW) revealing a face-off between King Orm (Patrick Wilson) and King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren) in the underwater world. That duty goes to King Orm, who wants to declare war on Earth's surface. Producer Peter Safran says that director James Wan "wanted to create these fearsome creatures... as a way of subverting the comic image of Aquaman riding a seahorse".

"He's part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some insane alien from outer space", Wan teases.
