Body of missing Argentina fan traced in Meenachil river

Kottayam, June 24:Two days after he went missing after Croatia whipped Argentina, the body of a Lionel Messi fan was found floating in Meenachil river near Kottayam town in Kerala. The suicide note in Malayalam recovered from his table said, "Maranathinte Azhangallilekku Pogunnu" (departing to the depths of death).

A Kerala man has gone missing from his residence in Kottayam, just hours after his favourite football team Argentina lost to Croatia in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, a suicide note found from the home of Dinu Alex, 30, showed he might have taken the extreme step.

The body of Dinu Alexander, (30), son of Alexander of Arumanoor was found from Illikkallil Bridge, 15 kilometres away from his house. He was last seen by his mother watching the match on TV. He had left a suicide note at home, stating that he was upset with Argentina's defeat and was going to end his life. Police said they along with Fire and Rescue service personnel were searching in a nearby river as a sniffer dog ran up to the river bank and stopped there, news agency PTI reported. "He had purchased a T-shirt like the one worn by Messi and sat down to watch the match".

"She used to wake him up at 5 am every day. He told friends that he will be ashamed to go out and communicate with other people, if Argentina loses", - said the father of the deceased fan. They have for now called off the search in the river. Dinu works with Manappuram Finance and is unmarried, police said.
