Police said there were two children, ages 7 and 8, placed in the cages.

The viral video shows a woman standing by the trunk of a Ford Explorer and holding the door of a dog kennel open as a young child clambers out feet-first. There were no AC vents in that part of the auto.

The Memphis police affidavit told of the grandmother claiming there was no room inside her vehicle Saturday, instead telling the children to get inside the kennels.

The incident was filmed on cell phone on Saturday by a man who happened to drive pass as the children were exiting from the vehicle.

Footage has emerged of the moment at grandmother apparently let her grandchildren out of dog kennels in the back of her vehicle.

Sixty-two-year-old Leimome Cheeks was arrested and charged with two counts of child endangerment, WREG reported. Court records show an arraignment scheduled for Monday has been continued until July 9, when she will tell a judge if she has hired a lawyer of if the court will need to appoint one.

"If she did that, then that's out of character for her", another of Cheeks' neighbors, Eugene Richmond, told the local station.

The children had also complained about the heat whilst they were kept in the confined space of the auto trunk, according to WREG.

The children told police there wasn't much air in the kennels and they were very hot. She was being held in Shelby County Jail on Sunday night.

"I'm still shocked", neighbor Skylarr Blake also said, describing Cheeks as "such a nice lady". She's such a nice lady. Heavy will update as more information is known.
