The film was shot in and around Charleston, SC under the working title "Uncle Orange". It features Jamie Lee Curtis in the key role of Laurie Strode; a part she last played in 2002's Halloween: Resurrection.

Carpenter hasn't put his name on a "Halloween" movie since having a producer credit on 1982's "Halloween III: Season of the Witch". "So we just have a reimagining instead", McBride said. A couple of investigators have come looking for Michael Myers, but after decaying in the institution for 40 years, one really doesn't know the reason behind this sudden urgency for locating the killer.
