The White House and Trump's British hosts are opting to go big on pomp and tradition, and mostly skip the current circumstances - namely, the mass demonstration against the USA president planned for next Friday in central London.
Trump arrives in Britain on Thursday after a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Belgium that could turn contentious over the US leader's insistence that allies pay more for their defence and amid trade disputes between Washington and Europe. "He'll get it done fast because I know it's a major priority for him", USA ambassador Woody Johnson said in a phone briefing.
He added that the Marine One helicopter would be used primarily to get around.
Trump's postprandial departure will be accompanied by the Royal Regiment of Scotland playing the bagpipes, a tip of the hat perhaps to Trump's Scottish-German heritage. A counter-gathering to welcome him is also planned.
On Friday, Mr. Johnson reiterated the president's interest in a bilateral trade deal with the U.K. Mrs.
That evening he will attend a black-tie dinner with business leaders at Blenheim Palace, a grand country house near Oxford that was the birthplace of Winston Churchill.
BBC diplomatic correspondent James Robbins said it would be "the most controversial visit ever made by an American president to Britain".
"The president knows this country probably better than any president in recent history", Ambassador Woody Johnson told reporters in a briefing call Friday.
But some Britons see Trump as crude, volatile and opposed to their values on a range of issues.
Poor Galaxy S9 sales see Samsung profits slip
Samsung fans will likely have to wait until late 2018 for further rumors on which device will be announced first next year. The Galaxy X launch has been postponed for a few years, but it looks like it will finally be hitting the market next year.
The street rally, which organizers hope could draw 100,000 people or more, will feature a giant "Trump Baby" balloon - a cartoonish depiction of the USA leader in diapers and clutching a mobile phone.
The balloon was paid for through an online crowdfunding effort, and the activists recently received permission from London Mayor Sadiq Khan to launch the balloon from Parliament Square Garden on Friday.
The dinner, where Trump will be accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, will be preceded by a military ceremony and guests will include British and United States business leaders.
Trump's schedule for his two days in Scotland is not public yet, but the president owns a golf course in the country that he visited during the campaign in 2016.
On Friday, Trump and May will visit an undisclosed location to witness a display by British soldiers.
"They will be discussing that issue - the relationship with Russian Federation - at the meeting at Chequers", Mr. Johnson said, referring to the prime minister's ceremonial country estate in Ellesborough, about 45 miles northwest of London.
President Trump is scheduled to meet Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle.
A meeting between the two politicians was looking increasingly unlikely despite Mr Trump spending the whole of next weekend in Scotland. Trump's wife, Melania, will have a separate itinerary and will be hosted by May's husband Philip.
