Earlier this month we examined firmware files dated in March, which led to the conclusion that a new Xiaomi flagship (code-name: beryllium) would be powered by the Snapdragon 845 and would launch in global markets, specifically including India.
The Mi A2 is the rebranded version of the Mi 6X with Android One software and successor to last year's Mi A1. The 4GB/32GB model of the Mi A2 will be priced at €249, whereas the 4GB/64GB one will retail for €279 and the 6GB/128GB variant will set you back €349. If Xiaomi launches the Mi A2 Lite in India, then the phone might retail at a starting price of Rs 11,999 for the base variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Xiaomi says it's a first for an "entry-level" smartphone and it's still more powerful than other mid-range processors. Sales commence from August 10th in Spain across Mi stores and other retail partners including Amazon.
The newly launched Nokia 3.1 is an option for stock Android lovers, but the specifications of the phone are mediocre.
The highlight of the phone is its 16-megapixel front camera with an f/2.0 aperture rate and a 79.8° wide-angle lens.
The Mi A2 sports an aluminum body and feels instantly familiar to users of the Mi A1 including the placement of the fingerprint sensor and dual rear cameras. Xiaomi touts the camera's larger-than-usual pixel size that make for brighter photos, and better lowlight performance. On the front, it might be a 20-megapixel image sensor with AI-powered features, including an AI Portrait mode. The company also offers a variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at Rs 12,999. The devices run Android One out of the box, which is Google stripped-down version of the operating system with no bloatware. The phone would be powered by a 3,010 mAh battery.
In terms of connectivity, Xiaomi Mi A2 supports Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C, and dual-SIM. The screen has an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a notch on top. It has powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset that houses the Adreno 512 GPU. For photography, the smartphone will be fitted with a dual camera module featuring 12MP and 20MP sensors at the rear for excellent photography experience. Inside are a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor and a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor - keep that in mind for future phone camera battles. The front camera is assisted by a 4500k soft-toned selfie light.
