SC head coach Will Muschamp spoke out in support of his former defensive coordinator and current Maryland head coach DJ Durkin after a bombshell report published Friday claimed the football program developed a toxic culture under Durkin. Maryland offensive coordinator Matt Canada will act as interim head coach, Evans said.
"At this time, the best decision for our football program is to place Maryland Head Coach DJ Durkin on leave so we can properly review the culture of the program".
Earlier Saturday, a person who had been briefed on the situation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that Court had been placed on leave by the school.
Jordan McNair, 19, died in June, reportedly from heatstroke after suffering from "extreme exhaustion" after a workout in May, reports said.
Strength and conditioning coach Rick Court is the most frequently named member of the coaching staff, though head coach D.J. Durkin's name arises as well, and he and Court are described as like-minded.

"The external review into the tragic death of Jordan McNair continues, and we have committed to releasing publicly the report being generated by an independent and national expert".
While no official cause of death has been released, Dr. Rod Walters, a former Maryland trainer, was hired by the university to investigate if coaches and officials followed proper protocols after McNair became ill.
"We must have complete confidence that our student athletes are treated with dignity and respect and that they are supervised and coached responsibly", he said.
"If the investigation confirms these reports, then strong and permanent corrective actions should be taken immediately". He reiterated his support for the full investigation of the program.
