Twenty people were killed in rural upstate New York when a limousine collided with another vehicle, New York State Police said on Sunday.
State police confirmed the death toll and said the crash involved two vehicles.
He added, "It's not supposed to be on the road".
Twenty people have been confirmed killed by state police after a speeding limousine crashed into pedestrians near a crowded tourist spot in upstate NY.
Police said the 2001 Ford Excursion failed to stop at an intersection and continued into a parking lot, ultimately crashing into a parked vehicle.
Vehicles that cross state or country lines are required to be inspected every six months by the state Department of Transportation.
Police said that just before 2 p.m. Saturday, they received reports of an accident involving two vehicles in Schoharie, New York, about 30 miles west of Albany.
Federal transportation records say Prestige Limousine was owned by Shahed Hussain and was based at a motel in the area of Gansevoort.
Saturday's accident was the deadliest United States transport crash in almost a decade, according to federal authorities. Relatives said the limousine was carrying the sisters and their friends to a 30th birthday celebration for the youngest. "We do need to learn from this", Sumwalt said. All of Ms. Steenburg's sisters, and Mr. Steenburg's brother, Rich, also died in the accident.

Speaking at Israel's weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the shooting "a very severe terror attack". The other woman shot in the incident was taken to hospital, where doctors said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Finnegan said she watched as first responders broke windows to try and rescue people.
Those killed in the crash included two pairs of newlyweds, four sisters from one family and two brothers from another.
