Chad Ludington, a classmate at Yale and a former basketball player for the university, brought up the decades-old altercation in a statement issued Sunday. "When Brett got drunk, he was often belligerent and aggressive", Ludington, now college professor, said in a statement.
As Kavanaugh's Senate testimony continues to generate questions about his credibility, a number of reports and statements from people who knew him earlier in life suggest that he lied about or downplayed his drinking habits from his youth.
The professor plans to speak with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday, according the New York Times.
The report got swift pushback from the Trump team, with spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders describing the account in which police investigated Kavanaugh's allegedly drunken violent behavior and he refused to answer their questions as "desperate".
"He's had a little bit of difficulty", Trump said. "It is truth that is at stake, and I believe that the ability to speak the truth, even when it does not reflect well upon oneself, is a paramount quality we seek in our nation's most powerful judges". He was more interested in impressing the boys than he was in impressing the girls. He was always one of the beer drinking boys and I drank beer with him. Kavanaugh denies the allegations.
In comments on Monday, the president did little to clear things up.

In an interview with Electronic Urban Report , the 58-year-old actor says he's quitting his Fox series, Lethal Weapon . As for what he's going to do next, Wayans said, "I'm going to return to the stage and try to find my smile again".
Mr Kavanaugh is accused of sexual assault by several women, which are being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Aside from Ludington, Kavanaugh's former Yale roommate Stephen Kantrowitz also refuted a different claim Kavanaugh made last week: that he was still a virgin in college.
The FBI inquiry is expected to be completed within a week.
A woman, Kathryn Mayorga, filed a lawsuit last week against the Portuguese athlete, saying Ronaldo coerced her into signing a settlement and nondisclosure agreement about an alleged assault in 2009, reports CNN.
Opposition Democrats have accused the administration of trying to limit the scope of the inquiry, amid media reports that Judge Kavanaugh's third accuser - Julie Swetnick - would not be interviewed.
Some Democratic members of Congress have accused the White House of stopping investigators from interviewing certain witnesses.
Kavanaugh was described as "belligerent and aggressive" by Ludington, who said he would provide the Federal Bureau of Investigation with information "detailing violent drunken behavior by Kavanaugh in college". For his part, Kavanaugh never admitted to having a problem with his drinking.
