Mandatory evacuations were ordered for the Woolsey Fire south of the 101 Freeway to the coast - from the Ventura/LA County line east to Malibu Canyon Road, including areas in Malibu.
Earlier in the day, the Hill Fire near Thousand Oaks in Ventura Country needed just 12 minutes to jump Highway 101, one of the area's primary roadways.
The fire was driven by heavy winds last night. Some structures have already been destroyed, Cal Fire reported.

The city of Malibu has reduced the scope a mandatory evacuation order for the beachside community as a wildfire approaches.
California fire captain Scott McLean said earlier that "pretty much the entire community of Paradise is destroyed", adding that the fire had grown to nearly 110 square miles - four times its original size.
