Today, AMC announced that a new series of AMC Studios Original Films will focus on Grimes, who was mortally wounded, picked up by a helicopter, and flown to an unknown destination in the latest episode of The Walking Dead series. How might Carl's arc from the comic book's tell us what stories will be resurrected for the show?
"There were story ideas brewing that, as the years went on, seemed very compatible with continuing to tell the Rick story in another format that would allow him time with his family". "I want to know why we keep seeing helicopters flying around". And I've always thought: Why don't we look at what's happening? Give us a taste for once of what goes on in the mind of the newly undead, from the hero's perspective.
"There were many iterations of the story [of Rick's final episode] and it became rather late past year that this [came together] because it was a pipe dream", Lincoln told THR "I said, 'Wouldn't it be nice to do this.' It's never been done by a cable TV channel and I didn't think it would come to much". Judith, such a little boss in "What Comes After", caught fans completely off guard and renewed the faith of many that The Walking Dead could continue to stay fresh as it inches towards Season 10 with both Rick and possibly Maggie (Lauren Cohan) gone forever.
If that was too grim, Rick's story was too optimistic - another example of business decisions tripping up a show.
'Freak Injury' Ends Ryan Burnett's Hold On The WBA Belt
He added: "Burnett is a smart, rugged guy and I don't doubt what he's capable of, so I will use everything in my capabilities to take that away".
Now, Michonne (Danai Gurira) and the rest of the group believe that Rick died because of this explosion. I'm not going to say any more than that. So that was a great gift that we knew early on and that's what we were going towards the whole time.
A word of warning for those who have not seen this weekend's The Walking Dead. "I'm tickling his feet, and he's like, 'You a**hole, '" the actor said. "Even back in that season where you know we had to write the wonderful Corey Hawkins out because he had huge opportunities in the feature film world... those seeds were already set there".
'I would hope that people will be excited that the character isn't dead and that there is more story to come - [but] not on The Walking Dead, not on the television show. "I think it was about day two of filming and I asked Greg Nicotero, who was shooting the episode, 'How many pints of blood does a human actually hold?"
The Walking Dead isn't the ratings juggernaut it once was, but this season promised a major moment that would appeal to viewers old and new.
