IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils have renamed themselves as Delhi Capitals ahead of the 12th edition of the tournament. Ahead of the 2019 IPL auctions, the Delhi Daredevils released former captain Gautam Gambhir and a host of worldwide stars which include Jason Roy, Glenn Maxwell and Liam Plunkett, along with Indian paceman Mohammed Shami. Delhi's team management and top bosses conducted an official event for announcing the change, the event was live streamed on popular social media platform - Facebook. "We wanted this name to mean something to each and everyone from Delhi", said JSW Sports' Director Parth Jindal during the update. They have also changed the tagline of the side which now reads, "This is New Delhi". Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting will continue as the coach and will be assisted by Mohammad Kaif.
The change in name comes close on the heels of JSW Sports picking up a 50 percent stake in the franchise. Besides releasing overseas players like Jason Roy, Glenn Maxwell and Liam Plunkett, they also let go of India pacer Mohammed Shami. Delhi have also managed to bring back a world-class player in Shikhar Dhawan, in exchange for Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar and Shahbaz Nadeem - who were traded with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The side boasts of some fine young talent in skipper Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant.
Qualcomm isn't going ahead with its NXP acquisition despite possible China nod
Qualcomm moved ahead with a stock buyback of about $30 billion that it had promised shareholders should the NXP deal fall apart. According to reports , Qualcomm and NXP have been patiently waiting for two years to win the regulatory approval from China .
They finished last in 2018, winning just five of their 14 games.
