The Green Bay Packers made a rather surprising decision on Monday, hiring Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur as their new head coach. With McVay as head coach, LaFleur did not have the opportunity to call plays. LaFleur said he has already had a chance to speak with Aaron Rodgers. Regardless of who the team brings on as offensive coordinator - or if they opt to carry on with a pass and run game coordinator as an alternative - that won't change.
Matt LaFleur uttered the names himself, all of Green Bay's championship coaches, his first day on the job.

"I think we've found a gem in Matt and we're really excited about the future under his leadership".
LaFleur said his year in Tennessee was a necessary learning experience that got him out of his comfort zone and allowed him to grow as a coach, opening up the opportunity to be the coach and playcaller in Green Bay. Murphy said the council talked about a sense of complacency that had settled in among certain players this past season. With Vrabel's influence rubbing off on him, LaFleur will re-establish the Packers as a team with the mental and physical toughness now required to win the NFC North.

"We like to say plays that start off looking the same but are different, plays that play off of plays", he said later.
LaFleur coached Rams quarterback Jared Goff in his sophomore season (2017) where he took a huge step in his development, and Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III in his rookie season (2012), when he was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. "We're an organization where they've done a great job of picking the right coaches - and able to win and sustain success", said Gary Ellerson, former Packers player, host.
"We're ready to get after it and I think we have the ideal candidate to lead us to where we want to go". The lessons I learned this year, I learned football is not easy. Quite honestly, if he had stayed in L.A. with the kind of year they had this year, he'd be the hot candidate.
Introductory press conferences are always a celebration and this one signaled a stark contrast in the mood around Green Bay in recent months. The Packers are confident they've landed their guy in LaFleur, who fits the popular mold of the young, offensive-guru type.
On Wednesday, he took over the Green Bay Packers, who have missed the playoffs two years in a row - and a team with a two-time MVP quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, whom LaFleur must help to get back to playing his best.
