Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Tuesday he'll bring Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's signature climate proposal to a vote on the Senate floor - a move created to put Democrats on the spot.
Markey claimed this move by McConnell was an effort to "kill" climate activists' efforts to organize behind the Green New Deal, rather than McConnell just wanting Democrats to put their name on a resolution he sees as damaging.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has also expressed his support for the initiative, but has not formally announced whether he will run for president in 2020.
The Senate will vote on new climate change legislation known as the Green New Deal, McConnell told reporters Tuesday, without offering a specific timetable. "It will give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel".
He offered no date for the vote.
"I really don't like their policy of taking away your vehicle, of taking away your airplane rights", President Donald Trump said at a rally in El Paso, Texas, on Monday, referring to the memo. It calls for an upgrade to infrastructure, building resiliency to climate change-related natural disasters and working with farmers to reduce emissions. "So, look, the political stunts are not going to get us anywhere". The ambitious proposal has been spearheaded by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Problems in the Democratic rollout of the proposal have further fueled the Republican attacks. He added that the plan would "shut down American energy" and "a little thing called air travel". A number of Democrats in the Senate have either already declared their presidential candidacies or are expected to do so, including Sens. Ocasio-Cortez has subsequently described the fact sheet, which has been deleted from her website, as a "draft".
Jury Reaches Verdict in El Chapo Trial
Once the jury left the room, he and his wife Emma Coronel, put their hands to their hearts and gave each other the thumbs up sign. Notorious drug lord El Chapo is set to die in jail after being convicted of running the world's largest drug smuggling operation.
Have rising sea levels and worsening forest fires convinced the Republican leader to reassess his position on climate change?
Cheney asked the expert panel, comprised of four Democrat and two Republican witnesses, to state how they each arrived in Washington D.C., for the hearing.
"It is so interesting to watch this very hard left turn the Democrat Party has taken, and it's also interesting to watch all of these Democrat presidential candidates rubber-stamp this Green New Deal", Sen.
The vote on the health care legislation didn't quite carry the punch Republicans had hoped.
"It is way out of the mainstream of the American public to the point that it is scary", Barrasso said.
"Instead of trying to cause mischief, the #Republican Party should put forward its own serious proposal to address #climatechange", Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
