Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern vows to change gun laws as soon as possible in the wake of the Christchurch terror attack.

She said Tarrant, who has been arrested and charged with murder and committing a terrorist act, had allegedly used five firearms, including two semi-automatic weapons, two shotguns and a lever-action firearm.

At least 49 people were killed at two mosques full of worshipers attending Friday prayers in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The first victim identified was Daoud Nabi, a 71-year-old grandfather who died trying to save someone else from a bullet, according to his son.

As Ardern revealed deatails about the suspect's weapons and his background, she promised changes to the country's gun laws.

There are now four individuals who have been apprehended, but three are connected to this attack who are now in custody, one of which has publicly stated that they were Australian-born.

The attack on the Al Noor and Linwood mosques has been labelled terrorism by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and is thought to be the deadliest attack directed against Muslims in the West in modern times.

Six of the victims of Friday's shooting rampage at two New Zealand mosques were of Palestinian origin, as were at least six of the wounded, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported Saturday, citing the Palestinian Foreign Ministry.

Families of the Sandy Hook victims were recently given the green light to sue United States gunmaker Remington for knowingly marketing a military grade weapon that is "grossly unsuited" for civilian use and has become the gun of choice for mass killings.

"Charges have been laid, we can expect additional charges will be appearing in the high court on the fifth of April, so there is obviously a process that needs to be gone through here", she said.

Ardern confirmed that the suspected gunman had not been on the radar of any intelligence agencies for extremism

She said neither the gunmen nor the suspected accomplices were on any terrorist watchlist in New Zealand or Australia. Two explosive devices were also found in his vehicle.

Two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found in a auto and neutralised by the military, while police raided a home in the southern city of Dunedin, where Ms Ardern said the suspect was based.

At least one of the weapons used by Tarrant was reportedly an AR-15 - the same semi-automatic rifle used in a number of mass shootings in the United States, including the 2012 Sandy Hook school killings in CT.

New Zealand law enforcement is working with Australian intelligence and police in the "wide-reaching" investigation, the commissioner said.

During her press conference, Arden said banning such weapons was "certainly one of the issues that I'm looking at with immediate effect".

"There is a dimming of enlightenment in many parts of the world", Parker said.

There are people who I would describe as having extremist views that have absolutely no place in New Zealand and in fact have no place in the world. "There have been attempts to change our laws in 2005, 2012, and after an inquiry in 2017".

'It's been 36 hours, I haven't heard anything about them, ' he said.

He was one of three people arrested in connection with the shootings on Friday.
