Earlier on Friday, a spokeswoman for South Korea's Ministry of Unification told a press briefing that the weekly inter-Korean meeting scheduled at a liaison office in Kaesong, North Korea, had been cancelled after the North Koreans said they would not be sending senior officials.

"The president is 100 percent committed to denuclearization of the peninsula, and he's going to make sure that whatever we do furthers that process", she told reporters.

"I want to make it clear that the gangster-like stand of the US will eventually put the situation in danger", AP quoted Choe as saying.

It's not the first time either man has been blasted specifically by the North Koreans, who have tried to get Trump and Kim together in the belief that he is more amenable to their position.

"On our way back to the homeland, our chairman of the state affairs commission said, 'For what reason do we have to make this train trip again?'" she said, referring to Kim. "It's the administration's desire that we continue to have conversations about this". "We have every expectation that he will live up to that commitment".

"At this time, they (North Korea) are willing to reform and become more open, which requires sanctions being lifted, but they also need to show their willingness to denuclearize and are urging the US president to take action", he said.

"I'm not sure why the US came out with this different description", Choe said.

The North said Kim Jong Un (gihm jung oon) will decide soon whether to continue the talks aimed at getting him to give up his nuclear weapons in exchange for sanctions relief.

Choe questioned the claim by Trump at a news conference after the talks in Hanoi broke down that the North was seeking the lifting of all sanctions against it, and said it was seeking only the ones that are directed at its civilian economy.
